Who is Isak Hansen-Aarøen? Rejected new Man United deal to join Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen have completed the signing of Manchester United starlet Isak Hansen-Aarøen on a permanent deal until 2028. It’s viewed as a major coup for the Bundesliga side as the 19-year-old is highly-rated but United decided to cash in with his contract set to expire in the summer.
The English giants wanted Hansen-Aarøen to pen a new deal but he showed no indication of extending his contract due to concerns over his pathway to the first time. The attacking midfielder didn’t make his competitive debut for United but he was involved in pre-season and his departure has been criticised by supporters.
Who is Isak Hansen-Aarøen?
Hansen-Aarøen is a technically gifted midfielder and he was tipped for greatness when he joined United from Tromsø in 2020. The Norwegian made his senior debut for Tromsø at just 15 years old and he was chased by some of European football’s biggest clubs - including Liverpool - before opting to move to Old Trafford. Hansen-Aarøen featured regularly for the U21s at United but failed to make the step-up to the first-team and that was ultimately the catalyst behind his exit. It’s understood that the Norwegian was frustrated over his lack of chances, while the opposing view was that he had unrealistic demands. United offered him a new four-and-a-half year deal with the intention of sending him on-loan but he rejected. United inserted a sell-on clause in the deal but there is no buyback option although they will be able to match any offer from another club. Hansen-Aarøen is already a regular with Norway’s U21s and he’s expected to progress into the senior set-up across the next few years.
What they said?
Werder Bremen head coach, Ole Werner, was delighted to secure the acquisition of Hansen-Aarøen. He said: “Isak is technically well trained, has a high level of ball security and a good understanding of the game. He brings a lot to the table, but we also see a lot of development opportunities with him.” Meanwhile, Hansen-Aarøen is excited to showcase his ability in the Bundesliga, adding: “Moving to Werder is the right step for me. I'm happy to have the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga for such a big club.”
